The CLA 35 4MATIC is the latest and strongest opportunity to enter the world of Mercedes-AMG. The four-door coupe shares the technology with the A-Class from Affalterbach, but sets other accents with its design. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine delivers 306 hp (225 kW), which are distributed to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and four-wheel drive. The world premiere will take place at the New York International Auto Show on April 16, 2019. The sale will start on April 29, the launch in Western Europe in August 2019.
The sporty performance (acceleration 0-100 km / h in 4.9 seconds) are associated with iconic design. The designers left the basic form with wide-shaped wheel arches and sporty, slim waist almost unchanged. Also, the two power domes on the hood were taken. The new radiator grille with the classic double lamella and the AMG Line front apron with flics on the air intakes are just as distinctive features of the CLA 35 4Matic as the trim elements in silver chrome on the fins in the outer air intakes. In the side view, the aerodynamically optimized 18-inch alloy wheels (19 inch optional) and the side skirts stand out. The rear apron with new diffuser insert,
The optional MBUX system with its innovative operating and display concept also replaces the command systems in the CLA 35 4Matic. With the MBUX Interior Assistant selected functions of the infotainment system can be operated without contact. The assistant differentiates between driver and passenger interactions and recognizes certain hand postures and hand movements.
The AMG-specific piano-finish center console with touchpad as standard features additional switches that control the ESP, transmission mode and variable damping functions. New are the integrated touch control buttons on the steering wheel, which are already familiar from other model series.
The 2.0-liter turbo engine is based on the M 260 four-cylinder engine of the new A-Class. The drive convinces with spontaneous response, high pulling power (400 Newton meters maximum torque from 3000 revolutions per minute), tremendous revving and emotional engine sound. For charging a twin-scroll turbocharger is used.
The AMG Speedshift DCT 7G dual-clutch transmission also contributes to the character of the CLA 35 4Matic. The standard Race Start function allows maximum acceleration from standstill.
The variable AMG Performance 4MATIC offers a spectrum from pure front-wheel drive to a ratio of 50 to 50 percent on the front and rear axles. The variable distribution of torque between the front and rear axles is handled by a multi-disc clutch, which is integrated in the rear axle drive. The regulation is electro-mechanical.
The five AMG Dynamik Select driving modes “Smoothness”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport +” and “Individual” allow a wide range of vehicle characteristics from comfortable to dynamic as a new feature in the driving program the CLA 35 4Matic has “AMG Dynamics”. This integrated vehicle dynamics control extends the stabilizing functions of the ESP by agile interventions. In dynamic cornering, a short braking intervention on the inside rear wheel causes a defined yaw moment about the vertical axis for a more spontaneous steering.
With the optional adaptive damping, the driver can choose between three different suspension controls. The spectrum ranges from comfort-oriented to sporty-oriented. The system works fully automatically and adapts the damping force to the road and driving conditions on each wheel, depending on the driving situation.
The “AMG Track Race” is also available as an option for the new CLA 35 4MATIC.The virtual race engineer is part of the MBUX infotainment system and permanently records more than 80 vehicle-specific data (eg speed, acceleration) while driving on a race track Because certain display elements light up in green or red, the driver can see from the corner of his eye without reading numbers whether he is currently faster or slower than the best time
